Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement

This Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement is published by Waste Disposal Camden for the financial year ending 31 March 2025. It sets out the steps we have taken, and continue to take, to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking from occurring within our business operations and supply chains.

Our Business and Supply Chains

Waste Disposal Camden provides commercial and residential waste collection, recycling, and associated environmental services across Camden and surrounding areas. Our activities rely on a network of suppliers and contractors that provide vehicles, equipment, personal protective equipment, cleaning products, technology, and labour-related services.

We recognise that modern slavery can occur in many forms, including forced labour, bonded labour, child labour, domestic servitude, and human trafficking. We acknowledge that sectors involving manual work, logistics, waste handling, and outsourced services can present particular risks, especially where lower-paid or migrant workers may be involved.

Zero-Tolerance Policy

Waste Disposal Camden has a zero-tolerance policy towards all forms of modern slavery and human trafficking. We are committed to conducting all our business dealings and relationships ethically, with integrity, and in compliance with all applicable legislation.

All employees, officers, agency workers, contractors, and suppliers are required to comply with this policy as a condition of working with us. Any breach by an employee may result in disciplinary action, up to and including dismissal. Any breach by a supplier, contractor, or other third party may lead to termination of contracts and reporting to relevant authorities where appropriate.

Supplier Standards and Audits

We expect the same high standards from our suppliers as we hold for ourselves. Our procurement processes are designed to help identify and manage modern slavery risks. Key measures include:

Requiring suppliers to confirm compliance with applicable labour, employment, and human rights laws and to prohibit forced, bonded, or compulsory labour and child labour within their operations and supply chains.

Including contractual clauses that permit Waste Disposal Camden to request information, conduct audits, and require corrective actions where concerns are identified.

Prioritising higher-risk categories, such as labour providers, temporary staffing, cleaning, and product supply chains that rely on low-skilled or manual labour for enhanced scrutiny.

Conducting supplier audits and assessments, which may be desk-based reviews, on-site inspections, or structured questionnaires. These audits consider working conditions, recruitment practices, use of subcontractors, and the presence of effective grievance procedures.

Where non-compliance or potential indicators of modern slavery are identified, we work with the supplier to implement a corrective action plan and may suspend or terminate the relationship if satisfactory progress is not made in a timely manner.

Training, Awareness, and Reporting Channels

We are committed to raising awareness of modern slavery risks across our organisation. Managers involved in recruitment, procurement, and supplier management receive targeted guidance on identifying warning signs and responding to concerns. All employees are reminded that ethical conduct is central to our values.

We encourage the reporting of any genuine concerns about modern slavery or unethical labour practices, whether within our business or our supply chains. Staff, suppliers, and other stakeholders can raise concerns through multiple reporting channels, including:

A confidential reporting route that allows individuals to raise issues without fear of retaliation.

We will investigate all reports promptly, thoroughly, and sensitively, ensuring that the welfare and safety of any potentially affected individuals is prioritised. We do not tolerate any form of victimisation of those who raise concerns in good faith.

Continuous Improvement and Annual Review

We recognise that combating modern slavery is an ongoing responsibility and that our approach must evolve as risks and best practice develop. Each year, we will review and, where necessary, strengthen our policies, procedures, training, and supplier oversight.

As part of our annual review, we will assess the effectiveness of our actions, consider feedback from stakeholders, review any reported incidents, and update our risk assessments for particular sectors or regions. Outcomes from this review will inform our future priorities, including additional supplier audits, enhanced training, or revised contractual requirements.

This Statement has been approved by the leadership of Waste Disposal Camden and will be reviewed and updated annually.
